Guns and Knives Take LivesReal or Fake - Can You Tell?

About the Campaign

GUNS and knives take lives - is the stark message from South Yorkshire Police and one which families beyond the county sadly know to their cost.

Officers are continuing to crackdown on those who wield weapons or view them as the latest fashion accessory.

This follows a massive campaign held earlier this year to tackle gun and knife crime in South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Humberside.

Funded by £75,000 from the Home Office, the pro-active initiative included police enforcement and a gun amnesty – from March 5 to 31 – in a bid to remove unlawful firearms from communities and reduce weapon-related violence.

But the focus was - and is - on education. Teenagers from a Yorkshire school joined forces with police to make a dramatic DVD about the dangerous consequences of carrying a knife or a gun – even a fake one. The short film, set to hip hop music, can be viewed on this site.

Officers will also continue going into schools to speak with youngsters.
