A Sheffield man was threatened with a handgun for refusing to hand over his mobile to a group of teenagers, a court heard today.

Mark Williams, 34, told police that he was 'petrified' after the youths shouted at him to hand over his camera phone. The father-of-two was faced with what looked like a semi automatic pistol outside an off-licence on Regent Street, in the city. Karl Floyd, 14, pointed the replica 9mm Glock, at the customer who had refused to give the youth his Samsung 310.

Mark, afraid that the youngster would shoot him ran back to the nearest pay phone to call police . CCTV picked up the incident and tracked the youngster to a nearby farmer's field, to join his waiting friends.

Police cordoned off surrounding areas to protect the public while armed officers made their way to the scene. Officers demanded that the boy surrender the gun but when he refused, they approached him and seized the weapon.

The boy will be sentenced at Sheffield Crown, later this week.
