Schools - Introduction
Last year in South Yorkshire, 29% of all firearms incidents involved a young person between the age of 12 to 18. The majority of these concerned imitation or ‘fake’ guns.
As part of an ongoing operation to help reduce gun crime, we have developed this online resource for teachers to use in the classroom at Key Stage three and four.
It has been designed to cover relevant sections of the national curriculum to make it suitable for Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship lessons.
The resource should enable teaching staff to confidently deliver an hour-long session on the consequences and dangers of carrying firearms, particularly imitation guns.
Downloadable tools including a board blast, a quiz, and a short film support the suggested lesson plan, which is based on dynamic interaction with the pupils.
